I've only been at work for an hour and a half and already my ass is numb and my right arm is aching. Ow.

BUT, Studio 60 was wonderful and filled me with glee*, I defrosted my freezer**, [livejournal.com profile] sarcasma is back, and the advent calendar my parents sent me fell apart during shipping, so I can eat the chocolates any time I want***.

However, when I am Ultimate Ruler of the Universe, I plan to ban karaoke machines from apartment buildings. Especially my apartment building. Especially my floor. Especially after midnight on a Sunday.

*Spoilers! )
**Although I forgot that I was in the middle of defrosting my freezer as soon as I left the house to get my hair cut, so I didn't rush back, and when I finally did get back there were huge chunks of ice and big puddles of melty water all over the floor.
***I was never allowed to have the chocolate advent calendars as a kid. I only got one for the first time after I moved to Toronto. Much like I got Valentine's chocolate from my parents for the first time when I was in Montreal. Absence makes the heart...send chocolate?

My new theory is that Aaron Sorkin is deliberately making Studio 60 as unlike a real sketch comedy as possible.

I mean, really. )

But I will forgive him. Because I love the show.

Despite being occasionally susceptible (or possibly just this once) to answering Craigslist ads at 11:30 at night, I am totally NOT PREPARED to see a response from the Craigslist boy at 8 in the morning, 5 days later. You can't sneak up on me like that!

Now, teevee.

And two public service announcements: My boyfriend Rick Mercer comes back tonight! Whee! And, you can get tickets to be in the live audience for my boyfriend George Stroumboulopoulos, who is back on the air next week -- assuming, that is, that you are free at 4:30 in the afternoon. Whose dumb idea was that?

Weekend

Friday, there was pie at work. No wonder none of my pants fit me anymore.

Friday, I watched some Doctor Who, the first series of the new series, or however it's labelled. It reminded me of Sliders. *ducks* Seriously, though, it felt like two shows, at least at the beginning - a cheesy kid-oriented action show with ooh! aliens!, and a parable of loneliness and exploration for adults. And then I watched an interview with the lead actor that was on the first disc, and he kept talking about how he'd done the series because he'd never done a kids' show before, and the interviewer asked all these questions about the responsibilities that come with doing a show for children, and suddenly it all made sense. It pretty much *is* two shows. But it comes together more as the series goes on, at least I felt so, and I love the relationship between Rose and The Doctor. All in all, a fun watch.

Friday, I went to bed early, because I am OLD.

Saturday, I went running. And I did not fall over and die, although I kind of wanted to during my last few minutes.

Saturday, I went wandering and had any number of crises, including what is the point of life? what am I doing with my life? what do I want to do with my life? how can I either accept that I am fat or get myself to do something about it? and what am I going to do about this massive infatuation that will not die? The only one of those I resolved was the last one, and the answer, predictably, was "nothing".

Saturday, I saw Little Miss Sunshine, which was awesome and fantastic and one of the best things I've seen in ages, although I am aware that my reactions tend to be heightened when I see movies in the theatre (because that happens so rarely), so it might not be quite that amazing. I did love it, though.

Saturday, tasty sushi was consumed with [livejournal.com profile] sarcasma and [livejournal.com profile] sanity_clause and then I attempted to cuddle their kitties, but they mostly ran away, as usual. One stayed with me for a brief moment, though, which was exciting.

Sunday, I did nothing. Followed by heading out in the rain to Word on the Street, where I huddled under my umbrella and listened to Sars and Wing Chun read from their new Television Without Pity book. Very fun, if wet.

Sunday, I did more nothing, then watched some Deadwood (with naked Molly Parker, hello!) and the second episode of Studio 60. Which I still love.

Today, the hallways smell like toasted raisin bread.

Tonight, I have to do some of the housework that I neglected all weekend.

Because Sorkin loves Canada the best*, Studio 60 is showing on Sunday nights here, so I watched it**, and it was wonderful, and there was joy in the land of me.

OH SORKIN.

Even Amanda Peet didn't annoy me too much, despite the fact that I generally can't stand her. I think it's because her character is much more restrained than most of the people I've seen her be.

I think my favourite thing, though, was hearing someone say "Roll VTR". Studio techs! I have missed studio techs.

Did you know that Mark McKinney, my favourite Kid in the Hall, is one of the writers? He was hired specifically to work on the sketches that are part of the actual sketch show that this takes place behind the scenes of, so that they were actually good when needed. Whee!

*Or NOT, given the content of the actual show.
**Because my cable is still mysteriously on. Not that I'm actually objecting to free cable, but the point of getting rid of it was so that I wouldn't watch as much tv, and now it's fall premiere season, and already the tv is sucking my free time.
