listersgirl: (why pirates?)

So what, you ask, have I been doing in the last 5 days since I posted? Very little, other than living downtown and enjoying the central AC and the cat. Best cat-sitting gig ever.

Also, I appear to be going through a serious girly phase. I'm sure this is no way related to the fact that I am crushing on everyone around me. Of course not! Anyway, last weekend I attempted to buy a whole new wardrobe (although I failed miserably and couldn't find anything I liked), and today I randomly bought a VERY CUTE pair of strappy red shoes. For no reason at all. They were awfully cheap though, and SO CUTE.

And now for the sad news: I have come to the devastating conclusion that sugar is giving me headaches and making me a cranky, moody bitch. THIS IS TERRIBLE NEWS. I love sugar! I adore sugar! I'm not entirely sure I have the capability of surviving without sugar, especially not when I'm using it to replace so many missing things in my life. But, I need to test this hypothesis, so starting...as soon as I finish this bag of candy I was given, I am going to attempt to stay away from sugar etc. for some length of time. As long as I can. Hopefully a week, but I've never made it that long before. All of which is to say that if I say "let's go for ice cream!", the correct answer is to lock me in the closet.

ETA: Really sad news! Chicklit is closing (at least the content part of the site - the forums will still be around for a while). I will really miss it. It's been such a thought-provoking, stimulating, entertaining place. Plus, that's where I met so many of you.

The good news is that tea has no calories. I keep reminding myself this as I attempt to keep to the diet I just started.... And hooray for Splenda.

Sugar is a hard one for me. I either have to cut it out completely or not do it at all. It doesn't help that I'm so gosh darn good at baking!! I noticed an issue when I'd have it at night and fall asleep instantly, like I was inducing a coma almost....

I am bummed about Chicklit, but hoping the forums stay around for a long time (I've been reading them even if I haven't been posting there much lately.)

As for the sugar, my former roomate had problems with it (I don't know it was headaches or just more general malaise) and cut it nearly completely out of her diet for a while. In her case, I think the really hard part was trying to come up w/ something chocolate and non-sugary.

You have my sympathy- I really can't imagine getting rid of sugar (although I'd probably end up w/ a whole bunch of Splenda containg stuff, since I really can't taste the difference like some people do.) If artificial sweeteners don't give you a headache, that might things easier, perhaps?

I try to avoid equal and stuff, because they are horribly sweeter than sugar, but I really can't taste a difference w/ Splenda in coffee and drink mixes and stuff. But that seems to vary very much by person. I don't use the stuff myself other than in coffee, but my sister bakes w/ it, I think, and it seems to work for that.

Wah! I hadn't heard about Chicklit, that's so sad. Though, of course, would be a million times sadder if the forums were also closing.

I feel bad, I always meant to propose articles and such and never got around to doing most of them.

You never need a reason to buy strappy red shoes - they are like chocolate and books - they're there to be bought and to be happy with.

I'm really sad about Chicklit as well. I wasn't on it much the past year, but I always loved reading the articles and sekretly observing the fights.

Nooooo!!!!!!111 I didn't know about Chicklit until just now! And I had only just recently started posting there again. SIGH.

Also, I firmly believe that there needs to be no excuse for cute shoes other than their cuteness. But I am a shoe-aholic, so take that with a grain of salt :)

Bummed about Chicklit closing, but the forums are still fun to read.
If you do give up sugar, may I suggest stevia? It's a more concentrated sweet then sugar so you don' need as much, and doesn't have that funny Splenda aftertaste.

Yay, shoes! :)

That's really annoying about the sugar. The only thing I can think of to suggest is a) diet pop of your choice, if you don't dislike it (I now swear by diet 7UP) or b) other sugar-free or "made with Splenda" prepared stuff (yogurt, cookies, ice-cream bars), with the idea that if it's already a cookie or what have you, you may not notice the absence of sugar?

And I'm sorry to hear about Chicklit - I was never a regular, but I know that it was big for a lot of people. :(

Ah, yeah. Probably best to just cut it out entirely. (If you need it, though, they do make sugar-free sorbets and frozen yogurt!) Good luck!

Buying cute shoes for no reason sounds entirely fair to me. And if they were cheap, too, what more could you ask?

I hope you have nice people to crush on.

That's so sad about the sugar. Good luck with staying away from it. Maybe even just cutting down drastically would help?
