That's really annoying about the sugar. The only thing I can think of to suggest is a) diet pop of your choice, if you don't dislike it (I now swear by diet 7UP) or b) other sugar-free or "made with Splenda" prepared stuff (yogurt, cookies, ice-cream bars), with the idea that if it's already a cookie or what have you, you may not notice the absence of sugar?
And I'm sorry to hear about Chicklit - I was never a regular, but I know that it was big for a lot of people. :(
