I am a little overly excited about the fact that I can go home right after work. You'd think that having just had 3 days off I'd be capable of being separated from the couch for a few hours, but apparently not. Especially considering that the original plan was to take advantage of the night off, and go get my hair cut. It just couldn't compete with the lure of home, proper dinner, and lounging, though.

vestra and I have decided to make the supreme sacrifice in order to save money ($100 for cable and internet? Gah!) and lose our extended cable.
Which means no more What Not To Wear. No more Clean Sweep. No more late Saturday nights of sex worker documentaries and "educational" sex shows. No more worst videos of the 80s. No more eternal showings of Miss Congeniality (not that I'm all that upset about this one here).
Most of all, no more hours and hours of Food Network. Which, to be honest, is probably a good thing. It does feel a little like we're swimming against the tide here, though - the world is running toward digital cable, HDTV, 200+ channels, recognition of cable shows, and we're dropping back to just the basic networks. The woman on the phone at Rogers sounded a little stunned by the concept.
It's all good, though, thanks to the wonder that is TV on DVD. This weekend included the inaugural watching of West Wing Season 1. *love*

Completely off-topic, we also saw Garden State, which I also love. Is there a name for that kind of movie? Because that's exactly my kind of movie. I never know how to answer the "favourite kind of movie" question, because neither comedy or drama really covers it, but "movie where there's not a lot of plot, but people have interesting conversations and there's good characterization and wonky filming techniques and clever references" is a little long.

Date: 2004-09-07 02:24 pm (UTC)It's bad when they include helpful examples though, like beside "Classical" they'll put "Charlotte Church, Yanni, Sarah Brightman" and rather than check the box I simply have to kill myself. Why do they include helpful examples? Aren't the people who listen to a particular genre going to recognize the term for it without the help of examples??

Date: 2004-09-07 12:54 pm (UTC)This sort of thing has happened to me too. I have cable here because it's included in the rent but otherwise I am anti-cable. People phone to try to give me deals on satellite dishes or fancy cable, and I have to tell them that I don't have cable at all and prefer it that way. They seem shocked at the idea.
Silly people.

Date: 2004-09-07 01:11 pm (UTC)Of course, I get somewhat the same reaction when I mention that I don't have a radio, except on my alarm clock.
I will ALWAYS remember where you work!

Date: 2004-09-08 07:29 am (UTC)(That's one of my favourite things about living in Toronto - knowing that if a movie makes it to Canada, it makes it here. Not that I go to many movies, but I like to know I could, and they'd be the movies I really wanted to see.)
