Also, I didn't watch The Amazing Race last night, even though I was sitting in the living room doing nothing in particular, and I don't regret it. I'm so over that show.

I have come to the conclusion, after reading and failing to find answers to innumerable lyric memes, that the only ones I can ever get are either Canadian or from musicals, no matter how many of the songs I actually know. And usually too late. Also, Tragically Hip songs will earworm me, complete with Gord Downie, for the rest of the day.

There's really not much else going on in the world of me. As long as I don't look at the wall of CDs on my desk I can pretend I'm not that far behind at work, I have no real thoughts as to what to bring to the staff party tomorrow, I'm boning up on my Messiah for the screech-a-long on Sunday, and OH LOOK IT'S LUNCHTIME. Thank pete.

How are you?

ETA: This is it, folks, the last BPAL review, at least until I put another order in -- which will probably be soon, considering it took 3 months to get here. Anyway, none of the samples really did much for me, but I traded a rejected imp of Envy for The Apothecary

Tea leaf with three mosses, green grass, a medley of herbal notes, and a drop of ginger and fig.

It's quite nice - sharp without being overwhelmingly green. And it lasts surprisingly well. I'll have to try it again before making a final decision, but I think I like it.

ETA again: Icon by [livejournal.com profile] kiltsandlollies! For me! Isn't she wonderful?

I think my tolerance for irritating people on TV is coming to an end. Or possibly just my ability to watch said irritating people without anyone else there with me.

I was watching TAR last night, and I realized about halfway through that was thoroughly annoyed with everyone* and I really just wanted them all to shut up. Thank god [livejournal.com profile] vestra is back ([livejournal.com profile] vestra is back! Yay! Ok, so she's leaving again soon, but still!) and might be around next week to sustain me through my angst.

Also, spoilers )

*Except Phil. I could never be annoyed with Phil.

PS. My email spellcheck program recognizes 'potlines', but not 'plotlines'. Buh? I don't even know what they mean by 'potlines'.

PPS. [livejournal.com profile] starfishchick, do you have the RotK soundtrack?

PPSS. I'm listening to the new Rufus album right now. I'm very happy.

PPPSS. I feel like ditching all my icons and getting all new ones. I'm bored, y'all. If anyone has any objections to this (heh), now is the time to speak up.

Also happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] offscreen!

And the pain seems to be going away, slowly, so I haven't permanently injured myself.

Now I'm going to go watch Colin and Christie reach the pinnacle of intensity. I don't know, if they get any more competitive they might just pop.

You people are extraordinarily quiet today.

...not that I really have anything to say either. I'm not letting that stop me, though!

I'm in mourning today because America's Next Top Model is over (here. For most of you it's been over for months). It's totally my guilty pleasure TV show, except that I don't feel any guilt for watching it. I think it's related to my love of makeover shows - I like seeing how they get transformed for each shoot.

Amazing Race ramblings ) Warning: if you don't want to know who's gone, don't read the comments!

And on that note, I'm still hungry, even though I just had lunch. Sleepy, too. I think I'll raid the snack drawer, and crawl under the desk for a nap. Who's with me?

Booktalk

Er, yeah.

Okay, so I haven't actually managed to *finish* a book this week yet -- I've got four books that I'm about 3/4 of the way through, but I'm afraid to take them to work because I'll probably finish them too soon and then not have anything to read on the way home, so each day I leave my nearly finished book on my bedside table, and start a new book.

So next week will be a bounty of books, but this week, I'll talk about...something else. Hmm, let's see.

The Last 5 Years

This is my favourite cast album of the last year. My roommate's copy barely left the cd player since she bought it, and then she took it away with her when she left for the summer, and I was bereft, so I bought my own copy, which arrived yesterday with the Buffy DVDs. And I love it. It's a two person show that tells the story of a 5 year relationship from start to finish (apparently it's based very closely on a relationship that the composer was in, and his ex-wife was NOT HAPPY because she comes off kind of badly). The twist is that his story is told in proper chronological order, and hers is told backwards. So at the beginning, he's excited and she's angry, and at the end she's hopeful and he's bitter, and for one song in the middle, they meet.

What makes it so brilliant, of course, is the writing. It's funny, and witty, and insightful, and touching all at once, and I dare you not to laugh at "Shiksa Goddess". Basically, I recommend this to everyone everywhere.

The Amazing Race

I'm not a fan of reality tv in general, especially shows where nothing actually happens (and I think that's because I'm not a fan of people in general), but I like shows like TAR and The Mole where there's a point and a game. Mostly, I'm pretty sure I like to watch them to see if I could do it. So far, I think I'd be pretty good at this season -- I'm usually good with maps, and I'm excellent at matching puzzles, thanks to many years of Games Magazine, and I don't have a fear of heights or fast things. My only downfall would be the actual racing part, because I'm pretty bad at anything involving running. Oh, and I'd probably get whiny after a few days without proper sleep.

Portobello Mushrooms

My new favourite food. Right now, I'm mostly roasting them and then slicing them into wilted spinach salad (with chick peas, sundried tomatos and grated carrot), but I also enjoy them as a burger, or simply roasted, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and sitting on a plate. Tasty.
