Once again I am proving false my constant assertion that I never do anything on the weekend. This past (and far too short) weekend, not only did I manage to fit in housekeeping stuff (groceries, laundry, handwash), but I also saw friends and saw shows. And made soup! Really good soup.

As for the people and the shows, Saturday, after having spent the entire afternoon reading the last Harry Potter, I finally managed to run out the door and meet friends from Kitchener for a drive-by dinner - they couldn't eat until quarter past 6 because of the Baha'i Fast, and I had to run at quarter to 7, because of stupid transit and theatres that are far, far away. I believe that this means I have seen Dhar more often in the last two weeks than practically any of my Toronto friends, including [livejournal.com profile] vestra, who's my roommate. This seems wrong, and possibly an indication of how bad I am at organizing things. I promise to work on that.

Then I went waaay up north to see [livejournal.com profile] sarcasma be cute and sparkly and fantastic in her (highly silly but mostly amusing) bastardized G&S show. Why is it that only men get patter in G&S? Also somehow managed to be wearing the exact same look as [livejournal.com profile] sanity_clause and [livejournal.com profile] mystery_diva - dark jeans and long sleeved black tops. Obviously we were far too cool for this theatre in the middle of nowhere. Either that or we had been brainwashed and were being controlled by aliens.

And then on Sunday I actually left Toronto and went to tiny Port Hope to see the production of Rocky Horror that [livejournal.com profile] vestra is playing for. Which was excellent, with mostly great leads and some fantastic costumes and makeup. Plus I got to see the Hot Drummer who has been mentioned numerous times. Sadly, he was wearing his shirt, so I did not get to see the tattoos and nipple rings, but they were duly described to me.

On the GO train back in to Toronto I realized that I have become a city snob. I was so happy to be leaving the tiny towns and bleak landscapes. I'm not entirely sure when that happened - there was a time when I really wanted to live in a cute little place like Stars Hollow - and I'm sure it'll change, but for the moment I'm happiest in a city.

And now the weekend is over, and I am sleepy. And annoyed at the snow.

Sounds cute.

So so sorry I didn't/couldn't come with! As it turns out, the family thing was sucky (angst to come in my own LJ). Would rather have been with you.

I have become a city snob

I'm already there. Nothing'd make me happier than to live closer to downtown in some happening neighbourhood.

Actually, friends of ours had the most perfect downtown place ever! We went to a couple of parties there before they moved back to Montreal. It's described in the anniversary party scene in "What is This Thing Called Love?". Gmajorette read my description and said "Ray and Liz's place, right?"
It was right near Church & King, so close to everything including our favourite Thai restaurant, and streetcars and subways steps away.

But, the suburban bungalow we live in now suits our needs, if not our dreams. Gmajorette dreams of a rural place far from everything, complete with horses, but that's not my thing.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the suburbs that I'm drawn to downtown ("run like moths we drift into the city/a timeless old attraction/cruising for the action/lit up like a firefly just to feel the living light" - RUSH, "Subdivisions"), so my dream place is more urban. Then again, Gmajorette grew up four blocks away from me, so go figure.

I love the city, and I love that you can get anything, do anything or go anywhere in it.

Yep. Just a short walk from their place.
