Real Montreal bagels are so far above any other kind of bagel-like product that all the others might as well be called "fauxgels". Or something like that, only actually clever.

I've never had Montreal bagels, but it's difficult for me to believe they're better than New York City Bagels.

Well, in my memory of the NY bagel, I still think the Montreal bagel is better, but to be fair I have eaten many, many more Montreal bagels. :)

Not all NY bagels are the best, but some are better than any others.

I'm sure you CAN get a bad bagel in Motreal if you try.

Oh, absolutely. There are many bad, not true Montreal-style bagels lurking out there, ready to trap the unsuspecting buyer.

I'm hoping to take a quick trip down to NYC some time in April, at which point I fully intend to once again enjoy the wonder of the NY bagel.

My absolute favorite is out in Queens, so it's not really convenient to where you'll probably be, but there are good places in Manhattan as well.

St. Viateur bagels are my favorite bagels in the whole wide world.

Oh, when I was in Montreal it was always St. Viateur. Here, the only thing I've found that comes close is the bakery in Kensington (My Market Bakery, maybe?), where they have Montreal-style bagels.
