27 Dresses: I realize that general opinion is that this is a terrible movie, and I'm not saying it was actively good, but I enjoyed it. There's been a lack of romantic comedy in my life lately.

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay: I really do have a deep and abiding love for Harold and Kumar. And guest spots by Neil Patrick Harris.

The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters: A documentary on the rivalry for the top scores on Donkey Kong. Interesting, although it felt a bit overhyped (the rivalry, not the movie).

Mamma Mia: This was fun, but holy shit was Meryl Streep so far over the top she'd snuck up on herself again. Really not necessary.

My So-Called Life: Man, I wish I'd seen this when it first came out. I'm glad I saw it now, though. Although I really must say that the parental storylines haven't aged all that well.

Once: This was a lovely, lovely movie. Although it was so naturalistic that I felt a bit creepily voyeuristic.

Pushing Tin: The movie itself was nothing spectacular, but I was riveted (riveted!) by the scenes in the air traffic control tower. I think I could have watched two hours of them navigating planes into the airport.

Quantum of Solace: Please remind me not to see movies with any kind of fighting or action on the big screen, because my tiny brain just can't follow what's happening. Which basically meant that I missed most of the movie. The parts that didn't involve running or guns were fun, though.

Rent (the last Broadway show): A filmed production of the last night of Rent on Broadway (with the current cast). Totally awesome, reminded me of why I loved the show so much, also reminded me of how different attitudes are now compared to then. And when the original cast members came out for the curtain call I may have cried.

re: Quantum of Solace -- it's not you; the action shots were very confusing (the use of close-up hand-held camera shots make the action hard to follow).

Thank you! It probably makes it more interesting on a small screen, because you can see what's actually happening, but seriously. No idea who actually won any of those fights!

I loved King of Kong: the rivalry seems overhyped because it IS overhyped, because it's freaking DONKEY KONG, and these guys need to get lives and not be creepy petty weirdos!

That movie was such a great character study. Who are these people? I felt so bad for Steve Wiebe's poor wife and kids.

I really loved the final scenes, where all the trashtalking fell through and you could see the whole thing for what it was, and get a look at the real people.

Despite the cheese that was Mamma Mia, I really was touched when she sang the "I don't want to talk" song. And the men trying to sing was hysterical, I'm not going to lie.

I pretty much forced my sister to watch Once when she was here. I just couldn't believe she hadn't seen it! I think it has one of the most realistic endings to a love story that I've ever seen, but I really prefer to just listen to the music over watching the film.

I remember loving My So Called Life. Definitely my first exposure to the idea that gay kids might be just like everyone else (forgive me, as I was raised in a very sheltered and ultra-conservative home) and I give it credit for paving the way toward me being much more of a better person that I was headed toward.

The ending made me bawl - I was fine with the love story not happening, because you're right, that was very realistic, but I was completely devastated that they were going to be living in different cities and not having that same friendship. I have a hard time dealing with friends being separated.

I was meh on 27 Dresses when it came out but I've watched it multiple times on cable. Sometimes I just need something light and rom-com-y.

I don't watch much stuff like that because it usually makes me want to throw things at the writers, so I think I was willing to forgive stupid things, since I wasn't burned out. :)

Things currently on our Ziplist: The King of Kong and Once

I was meh on Quantum of Solace. All the handheld stuff at the beginning gave me motion sickness.

And I saw 27 Dresses with my Mom. Mostly I liked the CLOTHES.
