This just in...

I had no idea when I left for work this morning that I'd be stepping into a major meteorological phenomenon. Yes, folks, there's some crazy weather out there, but I think I have it beat: my building is a pocket of the Arctic Circle in downtown Toronto. We're the Arctic Circle Embassy, the Arctic Circle's home away from home.
Basically, it's freezing in here.
I have never been this cold somewhere that didn't involve icy winds or blowing snow. Even my goosebumps have goosebumps. If you find typos here, it's because I can no longer feel my fingers. All I want is a hot cup of tea and an enormous blanket. And maybe some socks.
I'm thinking this means scrapping my planned dinner of salad, so if anyone has any piping hot soup recipes (veg or veg-able) to share, I'd be so very happy. I'd even thank you, if I could get my teeth to stop chattering.

Date: 2003-09-05 08:33 am (UTC)Lemony Lentil Soup .... I don't know the measurements off the top of my head.
3 cups (I think) of red lentils
chicken stock (6 cups?)
onions
cumin
lemons
olive oil
fresh coriander
Heat oil in a pot. Chop and fry up onions in the oil. Pick over and rinse the lentils. Add cumin (couple of tablespoons?) to the pot. Add lentils. Stir for 30 seconds to a minute. Add chicken stock. Cook for ... 30-45 minutes? It should get yellowy and kind of thick. Add lemon juice. Top with coriander leaves. Eat with crusty bread.
Sorry for the lack of specifics... I'm clearly a cookbook-using cook. :)
