I think it's really just that I'm developing hyper-super-sensitive hearing (omg superpower! quick, hide me from Sylar!), because suddenly the volume on my work computer is blast-your-brains-out-your-ears loud. Normally, I have the main volume control at medium, and the iTunes volume at medium, and it's all good (except for fucking MySpace, bane of my existence, which is always too loud). But as of maybe Wednesday last week, that's waaaay too loud. I turned the main volume down to about a quarter, and the iTunes volume to almost nothing, and that's just about bearable. And I have the same old falling apart headphones, too. Wacky!
I'm kind of having the same problem on my laptop, too, but that's harder to judge, because the volume has to be so different depending on the proximity of my ears to the laptop, so it's generally all over the place.
In conclusion, I am clearly bucking the trend by not getting deafer as I get older, but getting *better* hearing. If only I could get this to work on my eyesight, too.
