Broken Flowers

Meh. Jeffrey Wright and Jeffrey Wright's character were excellent, and the story was pretty interesting, but I felt like Bill Murray was basically playing the same character as he did in Lost in Translation, and there was too much time where literally nothing happened. I'm generally good with movies where nothing happens, but long extended shots of people not even moving don't really work for me.

C.R.A.Z.Y.

This was so awesome. So fabulous. A wonderful movie about a family in Quebec during the 60s and 70s, and how Zac, one of 5 boys, struggles to fit in. It's funny, and true to its setting, and really emotional.

Easy

Oh, look, it's another movie I watched simply because of naked Naveen Andrews. Please don't judge me. It was a pretty entertaining movie, all considered, about a woman who has a string of really bad short-term relationships. A pretty basic romantic plotline, including the random couplings of the secondary characters, but it was somehow endearing.

Gossip

I have no idea why this one ended up on the Zip list. And it was quite different from how I remember it being promoted, which is possibly why it didn't really go anywhere, or so is my memory of six years ago. It's about what happens when three friends deliberately spread a rumour as an experiment for a class. I was entertained by the first part, but it got pretty silly by the end.

Living in Oblivion

Hilarious. It's the making of an indie movie, but that doesn't even come close to describing why it's so funny, and I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. Because you should!

Lost and Delirious

Despite some overacting and the presence of Mischa Barton, I enjoyed this movie. It's based on a novel by Susan Swan, which I read ages ago and which is excellent, and is about three roommates in a boarding school. Two of the girls are in a relationship, but when one rejects the other, the rejected one becomes obsessive. Also, there's a raptor.

Stranger Than Fiction

This was great! Even Will Ferrell, who normally does nothing for me. And Maggie Gyllenhaal was a hot, hot baker. Also, it has probably the best romantic comedy moment I've ever seen (that I'm not going to spoil for you, but [livejournal.com profile] mystery_diva and I couldn't stop nudging each other for the rest of the movie).

Thumbsucker

An excellent movie of fucked-up family dynamics. Lou Pucci was amazing as the titular 17-year-old, really fantastic. And I loved the music.

Veronica Mars season 2

After inhaling this over one weekend, I think I can definitely say that my new favourite character is Cliff the lawyer. Also, the show is terribly good at bringing back minor characters and referencing earlier events. I remember vaguely hearing that people were less satisfied with this season, but I totally enjoyed it. I think sometimes it helps to watch a whole season at once - if you're disappointed with an episode, the next one is right there! Although when you watch the whole thing at once, then you just get sad because it's over so quickly.

I read an interview with Rob Thomas, the ol' creator of Veronica Mars, and he said part of the disjointed feeling in season 2 is that they often would write minor things in the script that suddenly became major when they saw the actors do it, or because of how the audience responded. One of those things was the chemistry between Veronica and Logan.

I think he'll keep learning. The idea of having 3 mysteries this year instead of one big one is interesting - I hope it improves the show.

omg Logan

I've been thinking of blogging more about movies, now that I have DSL and am downloading things. Now I can say I'm copying you.

And hey- naked Naveen Andrews sound like a damn fine reason to watch a movie. I just might have to make a note of that. And you said "another movie" - is he naked frequently, and I somehow missed it?

Oh, was that him? I remember seeing that movie, but it was way long ago, before I'd even heard of Andrews and for some reason I thought it was the guy who played Uncas in Last of the Mohicans who was naked in it. (I can't remember who that was, Eric something, I think, but I'd be more than happy to see anything that did have him in it naked._

I sort of liked Kama Sutra, actually, except for the whole miserable elephant-squishing cival war type ending. I like fairy-tales to have fluffy endings, and that was what I was thinking it was most of the way through.

Maybe they were both in it? They guy I was ogling was the sculptor. Though checking IMDB, the names don't match at all, so I'm not sure where I got that idea that it was Uncas from. Although it does turn out that Uncas was the Inuit hunter in the pilot of Due South, which is sort of cool.

I saw Lost and Delirious a while back - weird movie. It helped when I found out it was set in the 70s. I didn't watch the ending though. I gave up sometime after the raptor showed up.

Haven't seen any of the rest of these. I lose at movies.

I just saw Stranger Than Fiction-wasn't it fun? I totally liked it--Maggie Gyllenhaal was HOT and awesome and made me want to be a baker.

If the moment you're thinking of is the moment I'm thinking of (and I'll email you to check), then, yes, omigod, the best, cutest moment EVER!

That moment was splendid, so much so that the rest of the movie could have been utter crap and I still would have loved it!

Dustin Hoffman made me want to be a professor!

Seriously - cutest moment EVER. I giggled about it all the next day too, and tried to imagine what the equivalent thing would be that a dude could give to me and be that romantic. Squee

Thumbsucker was such a great movie! That kid better get some more work because I thought he was incredibly sympathetic and talented. And I love Vince Vaughn when he's not doing stupid comedies. Plus the soundtrack is amazing -- Eliott Smith's cover of Thirteen is on constant play in my Ipod. Sadly, he killed himself while writing the music for this movie which is why The Polyphonic Spree handled the rest of the music.

This gives me more fuel in the 'get SFD to see it' battle.

Although the reviews haven't been half-bad, I think he'll go because people said it was Kaufman-esque.

It's only Kaufman-esque in the sense that there's a bizzare convention which (most of) the characters readily accept as part of their universe. The dialogue and humour is much less challenging than Kaufman's stuff (but still very good). I think SFD would enjoy it.
