gmajor convinced me to watch this, even lending me the DVD, and I'm so glad he did, because I probably would never have gotten around to watching it. So much fun. It's like a fan letter from the director to the music of the 70s.
Bad Education: I'm having a terrible time describing this without giving stuff away, so let me just say that it's set in Spain during the 60s to the 80s, it's about two boys from a Catholic school who meet up again later, it's excellent, dark and trippy, and Gael Garcia Bernal is fabulous.
Bring It On Again: Yes, yes I did. And really, it's not so much a sequel as it is just another cheer movie -- only this time it's the young, eager cheerleader versus the bitchy cheer captain (with a side of ballet dancers, actors, and karate folk!). Whatever, it was derivative cheesy fun, if highly unbelievable.
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle: I am fully prepared to admit that I scoffed when this movie came out. How could it possibly be anything other than stupid, I asked? But then people I trusted kept saying how funny it was. And then I read an interview with Neil Patrick Harris, and I had to watch it. And I could not stop laughing (well, except for the few incredibly stupid bits, but there are very few straight-up comedies that don't have parts that I can't understand how anyone finds them funny). Oh, man.
Little Britain: Many people have raved over how funny this series is. I say, meh. The first episode was funny, definitely, but the conceit of the whole thing is that it's following ordinary Britons, so the same characters come back again and again, in nearly the exact same situations. And some of them were so repetitive. Some of them managed to be repetitive by the second episode. I did watch the whole season, though, because there were a few bits that entertained me each time, but I skipped most of it.
Love That Boy: Wonderful. Seriously, see this movie! A quirky little film about a girl in university who is obsessed with doing everything, and perfectly, and the relationship that develops between her and her 14-year-old next door neighbour. Excellent.
My Brilliant Career: This was lovely. Set in Australia, around the turn of the century (I think). The beautiful career in question belongs to a woman who defies her family and societal expectations to become a writer.
Pirates 2: I still have issues, I still want to see it again. I just can't escape Captain Jack Sparrow.
Roadkill: The first feature by Bruce MacDonald, of Highway 61 and Hard Core Logo fame, about a band manager's assistant who goes chasing after a renegade band in the wilds of Northern Ontario and meets some truly bizarre people along the way. Weird and wacky.
Veronica Mars Season 1: Yes, again. I'm preparing myself for the DVD release of season 2! The season-long mystery stuff didn't really interest me as much the second time round, and the mystery of the week stuff was often boring, but really, it doesn't matter, because I watch it for the character interaction, the snark, the far-too-cleverness, and the potential that Logan and Weevil might start making out at any moment. What?
