Now, I'm sure you ALL are making plans to turn off the phone, shut the blinds, and settle in with your TVs on Sunday night for the Tony Awards. Right? RIGHT?

Excellent.

I'm very excited for The Drowsy Chaperone - I saw it here in one of its early incarnations (post-Fringe, pre-Broadway) and it was so much fun. Whee! Also, hi, this means Don McKellar is up for a Tony. How can you not love that?

I don't think I mentioned this before, but as of last week I've been in Toronto for five years. Five years! I'm having a hard time comprehending that, especially since that means I've been working for this organization for five years, too. When I got the job, I had a 5 year plan -- 5 years and then I was moving on, because I don't want to be someone who works for the same company her whole life, getting more bitter as the years go by -- and there have definitely been times when I was totally ready to leave. Of course, those times never coincided with jobs that I wanted. And right now, things are interesting, things are happening, and I want to see what's going to change next.

Meanwhile, I have decided that this is the summer during which I will do/see/explore all those bits of Toronto that I still haven't made it to after 5 years (like the Toronto Islands). Although in reality it'll probably be like every other summer here, and be the summer during which I hide out in air-conditioned libraries and movie theatres. But I have hope!

[Completely off-topic aside: my co-worker just lent me season 4 of Six Feet Under and our boss season 5, and he kept trying to talk about it, but he couldn't remember what was in what season, and so the entire conversation went something like, "Was that the season where Claire--" "Shhshhshhshhshh". We wouldn't let him get a word out because he was trying to talk about the season that we had in our hands right then. However, apparently we have a quiz on Wednesday.]

And now? Snack. Oh yes indeed. I had a terrible sleep last night, so something that will keep me going is definitely required.

-Very excited to see the top 20 actually dance next week. You know, for more than a clip show.
-I was sad about Hawk - I wonder if he would have made it in if there hadn't been the whole visa problem?
-What they told that girl, the one who was the last to not get asked back? That was the weirdest explanation ever. I think there must have been an actual point behind it, but I have no idea what it was.
-Also, I really wanted the wee boy with the floppy hair to go on. Still, I think it's interesting that they are actually *encouraging* people to try out again next year. It's like they recognize that practice and training make people better! Shocking.

ps. I am determined to actually leave the house this weekend, so if anyone is staring at an empty schedule, wondering what they will do to fill it up, e-mail me! Maybe we can do something!

I'm finally seeing Hawksley this weekend. Yay!

(And I've been in Toronto for 16 years. 16 YEARS! I feel so ancient!)

Thanks for mentioning the Tony's- I didn't realize they were on. (I don't have a TV paper, and tend to only watch my little handful of shows, so I miss things like that.) I really don't follow theater, but I watched the Tony's w/a friend last year, and thought they were a lot of fun. It's so nice to see an awards show with people who actually appear to have brains and some talent for speaking in public.

Although, sadly, we probably won't get Hugh Jackman w/ the Rockettes this year.

I really want to get to the Islands this summer, especially now that I had a tiny little experience there yesterday for work. We should plan something! I'm up for any of the islands (and you can actually walk across the whole thing in about an hour - it's only 5 kms long).

I wondered the same thing about Hawk. And with that last woman, too - such a weird excuse.

Thank heavens you're catching up on SFU! So far the only other person I know who's seen the complete series is Drama King. He's pretty much done rehashing S4 and S5, where as I have only scratched the surface. Watch, that we might discuss!

I was sad about Hawk too. I was amazed at how he did in ballroom, despite the fact that he totally thought he didn't belong there.

My favorite dancer is the one guy with the shock of blond hair - I could watch him for hours.

I think what they were trying to say to the girl is that because she made it look so easy, it wasn't as precise or fierce. Fierceness in dancing seems to be important these days. Just my opinion based on nothing. ;)

I watched it toooo.
And because I'm feeling a) unoriginal and b) haven't had my coffee yet, I'm going to say "ditto". 'Cept I love the swing dude because HELLO, SWING.

Do you know what channel the Tonys are going to be broadcast on? I only get CBC/CTV/Global/CityTV ... I hope it's one of those channels! I have to watch - the Drowsy Chaperone might actually get an award!

I was hoping to have it on in the background while I clean/pack/de-clutter....thanks for the offer, but I'd better stay home...I still have 2 closets to clear out!

My suggestion for a Drowsy Chaperone theme drink: gin martini with only a threat of vermouth, extra olives and some crushed sleeping pills around the rim.

Not until the middle of July, but that's not really that far away...

I still need to book my movers, find a handyman who can put up some crown mouldings and redo my closet, and decide what colour I want to paint the bedroom. I need to get access to the suite and measure!!

I will ABSOLUTELY be watching the TONYS!! I never miss them! And, PS. I totally cry during the opening song. It always reminds me of what I'm striving for as an actress and how much I love theater. Also, because I'm such a big SAP! :)

And, I was really sad to see Hawk go! I really liked him! And, I bet he would've been chosen if the visa problem hadn't been in the way. He was just so humble and cute!

And, I kind of get where they were coming from with the comment about it looking too "easy." I always thought she looked a little bored during her routines. She lacked spark. And, you know they're all about the pizazz!

I'm excited about the season though. It looks like a cool group!

TOOOOONNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

ahem. V. excited.

5 years!! Wow. I'm glad things at work are interesting right now for you--after you've explored the rest of Toronto, move here!!!

Poor Hawk. I definitely think he would have made it, were it not for the visa problem. I also really liked the little floppy-haired tapper. Hopefully next year! I kinda like the swing guy, if he can stop pulling faces. I'm looking forward to seeing them all really dance, so I can start telling them all apart.

P.S. This breastfeeding icon is starting to annoy me. Has that issue been resolved yet? Someone please inform me so I don't have to do the research myself.

I don't think that it's them encouraging people to practice, it's that they realized they had a BOAT of crappy contestants.

I hate watching crap dancers, it is so less entertaining than watching crap singers.

Some of these people are attempting stunt moves that PROFESSIONALS don't do. Like, I've seen some amazing stuff on dancefloors, usually involving boys from Detroit, but SHIT, if you ain't got rhythm and you ain't got style, you CANNOT attempt a fucking flip.

Working harder! HA. So many of these people are hopeless. No amount of LSD and MDMA could help them!
