listersgirl: (be like that)

I just bought two pairs of very expensive (for me, queen of Payless) shoes: real shoes for running, the kind that don't come from Zellers and are actually fitted properly, and Birkenstock sandals. I'd been thinking about the Birks for ages, because I have had a terrible time finding sandals this year, and it's so important to me to have shoes that I can *walk* in, for hours on end, because that's what I like to do in the summer. Anyway, I'd been making do, but yesterday I went out walking (and it was glorious, and I was deliriously happy, and if I ever thought that my moods weren't defined by the weather, well, I was an idiot) and came home with ENORMOUS blisters. Real blisters, too, not just rubbed sore spots. So I gave in and bought the damn sandals that I know work for me, although I will probably have this sick feeing in my stomach about the leather thing for ages, my feet will be happy.

I also bought socks, and a new shade of blush. OMG MY LIFE IS SO EXCITING.

I don't really like shopping much. It's fun as a social thing, or going along with other people while they're doing the shopping, but I pretty much hate doing it for myself. I think this is because I really hate having to ask people for help. Or maybe I hate feeling like I don't know anything. Or maybe I just don't like the attention, I don't know. Also I always feel like store clerks are laughing at me. So it takes me a while to work up the courage to buy things that I can't just pick out myself, like shoes that aren't from Zellers. I did ok in Running Room because there was no-one else there so the guy came up right away, but I nearly left the other shoe store before anyone had a chance to come up to me, and I must have walked by the MAC counter about 5 times before I was willing to say anything.

Whatever, it's done, I have shoes, I'm going out running tomorrow with my new comfy shoes and the summer running clothes I bought at MEC on Friday, and it'll be very fun. I'm picking a new route, though, one that doesn't have the evil hill of death that NEARLY KILLED ME last time.

Meanwhile, I have finally watched every single DVD I own except one, including commentaries and extras, and I am feeling bereft. I really should stop "accidentally" looking at Amazon, eh?

Which Running Room did you go to? I just noticed one at St. Clair & Yonge the other day (there's actually tons more at that intersection than I realized, like restaurants and pubs and bakery and shops, so, yay). Trying to work up the courage to go through that process myself.

What shade of blush did you buy?

Which style of Birks did you buy? I mean, come on.

What DVDs should I be putting in a bag for our playdate tomorrow, if we're still on? There must be something here you haven't seen and want to. :D

The Firkin at the end of Heath not only has a patio, it has three (or possibly four). We went on Friday and were ignored by our otherwise very pleasant server as we have never been ignored before. However, I'll be happy to go again, because I'm sure that was an isolated incident.

TP and Buffy 6 & 7 it is. :)

Oh, disappointing! We'll have to give it another try, though, sometime. (Right?)

The Firkin was the same -- super-busy, at least on the patios, but our dude just kept disappearing for huge breaks or something. He completely forgot our food -- it was lukewarm when we got it, so it had obviously been ready forever. Then we had to go downstairs and beg for our bill (we could totally have D&D'd) and wait like 15 minutes while someone found him -- and then he had to make two trips for some reason -- nice guy, but not very good at his job.

Ooo, I have Tenderling! On me it shows up pretty readily, though, even if I use only a little bit, because I'm Whitey McFreckles-Whiterson.

Oh, and I can't wear Payless either. Basically if a pair of shoes retails for less than $75 or so I figure they're not for me, because I'm really hard on my shoes and cheap shoes start looking like crap long before I'm ready to buy new ones.

I am so with you on the shopping sentiments. Sometimes when I'm watching WNtW I have a rather visceral repulsion for the shopping component. They have to shop for two days ALL DAY LONG. What a waste of time.

I'd like to say that I would love to go shopping with you some day, like, for moral support. But I'd probably convince you to abandon the shopping for ice cream and a nice long walk instead.

Also, am jealous of new birks.

You're lucky that you can wear Payless shoes. The only thing I bought from them recently was a pair of flip-flops, but those were Airwalks so they're comfy. For true comfort with my icky feet, I have to wear Skechers or Hush Puppies.

Birkenstock sandals
I've debated on getting Birks for a long time, but everyone seemed to have them (back in my days of high school and college) so I just gave up on it. Are they really comfy?

I also bought socks, and a new shade of blush. OMG MY LIFE IS SO EXCITING.
More exciting than my life, so I'll live vicariously through you. :D

I don't mind shopping alone... especially if I'm sort of on a mission, like I have things to do, and I can't waste anytime. But generally yeah, I like going out with the girls and shopping. My best friend's a guy so we rarely shop together unless it's for unisex stuff like games, books, or stuff like that.

As far as movies go, have you watched "Stage Beauty"? I love that movie (watched it off of my netflix). I suggest it to everyone I know who's looking for a movie to watch. I need to buy it one of these days... you know, when I have the money to.
