Recently I braved the BPAL swap boards in an attempt to pass on some of the various imps that we've received and not enjoyed very much. It was amazingly successful, other than the fact that most of the respondees all wanted the same things. I think I had a couple of imps that have been discontinued. I still have a bag of stuff that no-one seemed to want, but I did get a few things out of the deal.

[Note to clarify: these are reviews of the ones that I received, for those who are interested. A post with imps I have to pass on is forthcoming, I promise.]

Aizen-Myoo - A bright, bittersweet scent honoring the Japanese Deity of Love and Passion. Aizen-Myoo is one of the vidyarajas, the Shingon’s Radiant Kings of Wisdom. Though Aizen-Myoo possesses the lust, grace and passion of both genders, he most often appears to his followers as male. His face is screwed into a fearsome demonic mask, but this is only the wrathful, fierce countenance he places over himself to guide and empower his children. Aizen-Myoo is the patron of prostitutes, of joyous, unbridled sexuality and of all forms of erotic love and is worshipped by all those in the sex industry, musicians, and – oddly – landlords. Yuzu, kaki, and mikan with cherry blossom and black tea: Very nice! I can see why everyone loves it. It's a light, almost fruity smell, a little bit floral without being at all overpowering (and I don't like florals generally). A keeper.

Athens - A reformulation and modernization of a true Classical Greek perfume, myrrhine: voluptuous myrrh, golden honey, red wine, and sweet flowers: Ugh, no. Too floral.

Bastet - Bast, Ubasti, Ailuros, Ba-en-Aset. Represented as both a domestic cat and a fierce lioness, she truly evidences traits of both. She is the Mother of All Cats, Goddess of Sensuality, Fertility, and a guardian and protector of women. She is also one of the Eyes of Ra, and in that aspect is an Avenging Goddess, seeking retribution and punishing enemies of her people. Luxuriant amber, warm Egyptian musk, fierce saffron and soft myrrh, almond, cardamom and golden lotus: I love these descriptions. This was ok. It was kind of similar to Queen of Sheba - maybe a little spicier. It didn't entirely grab me, though.

Blood Kiss - Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk: Way too cherry for me.

Desire - The overwhelming agony of passion crystallized into a singularly dark and magnetic blend: bittersweet neroli, black patchouli and black musk, gilded by apple, bergamot, blood red rose, teak, and vanilla: I liked this at first, but then the rose (or something) started to come through and it was too much for me.

Intrigue - A sultry, exotic scent that inspires devious plotting and clandestine affairs. It is a scent painted in artifice, veiled in deceit, and slithering with whispered secrets. Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes: This I love. Nice chocolate overtones with the richness of fig underneath. Excellent.

Morocco - The intoxicating perfume of exotic incenses wafting on warm desert breezes. Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia: Another one that reminded me of Queen of Sheba. There something vaguely incense-y in them, I think. Very nice, though - warm and mild.

La Petite Mort - Seduction, sensuality, the Act, and the aftermath all in one. The scent of warm, damp skin flushed with the glow of passion, touched by the luxuriant potency of ylang ylang and myrrh. Not bad, although very strong at first. Sweetly incense-y without being overwhelming.

Phantasm - This delicate, spectral perfume gives rise to an eerie distortion of of the senses. It bestows an ephemeral, ghostly, and truly haunting quality to your presence. Green tea, lemon verbena, jasmine and neroli: Very green, and unlike the other green scents I've tried, doesn’t turn powdery after a few minutes. I don't know how much I would actually wear it, though.

White Rabbit - Strong black tea and milk with white pepper, ginger, honey and vanilla, spilled over the crisp scent of clean linen: Slightly sweet without being candy-like. Very nice, but it fades away so quickly.

[livejournal.com profile] maitheas, I'm going to try White Rabbit one more time, and if it still doesn't last on me, I'll pass it on to you, ok? Assuming you haven't ordered your own already, of course.
