The Diamond Age is my very favorite Neal book in the current history of Neal books. Snowcrash is good, too, but it's obvious, I think, that he wrote it earlier in his career than the others.

I've just started The Baroque Cycle, so I'm reserving judgement on whether it might turn out to be my favorite Neal "book" of all time.

It's so hard to tell, isn't it? I always feel like I want some sort of baseline marker, so that I can tell what I would be feeling without the outside (or inside) influences.

Don't try to think through the cramps, though. That never goes well.

And that's exactly why I'm going away. I need time alone without his influence to sort through all the thoughts and conversations and arguments and hurts to figure out what I really want here. Or at least where I think I am. And I waited until next week so that I wouldn't be hormonal anymore.

I'm sure it will be good, I'm not sure it will be fun.

Ibuprofen is my best friend today. It's working already, and I am grateful.

I will defer to your Neal judgement, then, and go for The Diamond Age: since it was sarcasma's love of Neal that led me to Cryptonomicon, I figure I should always take the advice of those who love him best.

Oh, I am considering a candy buffet to decorate the cake table - lots of pretty blue and white candies in cute containers, with scoops and bags so you can take lots of candy home. So it's mostly decoration but also favours and on the spot treats. I've seen pictures of pink and green ones, brown ...it looks really cute.

All of our favours are edible. We don't want to make you cart home any more crap than is necessary. :)
