I am an old, old woman. I went to a movie yesterday, and when I tried to get up after it was over, my knee collapsed and I stumbled and fell, and then I had to hobble out of there. I mean, I'm fine now, my knee just seized up from being in one position for so long, but somehow that's almost worse -- there's nothing actually wrong, other than the fact that I'm slowly breaking down. Oy.
Also, I'm not recovering from my vacation very fast - I can't sleep at night (although I'm sure that's not helped by the fact that it's SO HOT HELP I CAN'T BREATHE in my apartment), so I'm still seriously jetlagged, and I have no energy whatsoever. Even doing little things like putting away my dishes exhausts me completely. And my stomach is killing me. Too much pain. Ow. We have someone new starting today (a summer student) and she sounds like a very interesting person, but I seriously can't even fathom trying to carry on a conversation. I have got to get some sleep tonight, and maybe find some sort of ulcer-relieving medication.
Still, movie. I went to see Sabah. Sabah is a 40-year-old Muslim woman living with her Syrian family in Toronto. Her life, and by extension the lives of her family, is turned upside-down when she meets and falls in love with a "Christian" man. It was a fun movie, and I very much enjoyed myself, although the ending was a little too neatly resolved. I went with some bellydance friends - our former dance teacher Roula played the oldest sister - one of whom is Egyptian, and she spent the entire movie feeling like this was exactly her life.
After the movie (and the hobbling out of the theatre), I decided to walk home, in order to try to work the kinks out from my body, and tire myself out enough that I might actually fall asleep. It took me about 45 minutes, which was a little longer than I had guessed, and by the time I got home I was exhausted and sweaty. Summer sucks. The walk was pretty nice, though.
ps. Happy birthday
