a house is not a home
Mar. 7th, 2005 02:14 pmI had a mildly unsatisfying (although productive nonetheless) weekend of attempting to finish setting up my apartment. I have a list of things I need (ranging from a couch to some sort of holder for my wooden spoons etc.) in order to make the place feel a little less transitory and boobytrapped with half empty boxes, and I was determined to cross things off the list, but I didn't do as well as I'd hoped.
Saturday I took a very long streetcar ride to Canadian Tire, where they didn't have the things I expected them to have. Mrr. I bought a lamp for the piano and something else that I've forgotten, but it was generally disappointing, as were the two dollar stores I perused on the way back in order to find a small dish drainer.
Sunday was a pilgrimage to IKEA with![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
starfishchick and her mom (which meant bonus car, and I really should have thought about that and tried harder to buy things), which was crowded and full of children. Fun, but again they didn't seem to have what I actually needed -- I bought a small, cheap coffee table to replace the monstrosity that I have now, and a throw in shades of orange and red, which was not on the list, but I couldn't find the kind of bathroom shelving I was looking for, and the couches were not what I wanted. I may have found some shelves to put my boxes of games on, but I'm putting off buying them because I don't like having to mount things on the walls.
That's the problem, really -- in some cases, I know exactly what I want, so it's hard to make myself think of anything else, and in other cases the concept is very vague in my brain, which leads to waffling and indecisiveness.
I'm going to check out Zellers tomorrow for some of the smaller things, and the futon place later this week, and hopefully that will help winnow the list down a little more.
