It's [livejournal.com profile] globetrotter1's birthday! I hope it's a wonderful one, full of sushi and presents. :)

The glass harmonica. Not, as previously thought*, a form of harmonica, but something that developed from glasses of varying sizes mounted on what looks like a keyboard. That's right, it's a party trick turned into a legitimate instrument. Let the mocking begin.

The ondes Martenot, aka The who what? Apparently I already knew about this one from Music Theory 301. Apparently I didn't pay enough attention in 301. I blame it on the mesmerizing qualities of tone rows.

The cristal baschet. It looks like a marimba with those cat cones (the kind they use so that they can't scratch their heads after surgery) attached. I'm sure it's not, but the thought is killing me.

The serpent. Also, the lizard. The instruments themselves have evolved into something pretty common, but they're awfully entertaining to look at. Plus, how much fun would it be to tell people you play the lizard?

And finally, The First Vienna Vegetable Orchestra. Enough said.
