Today at the gym a complete stranger came up to me and told me that I'd lost so much weight since she'd joined the gym in August. I was in such a good mood for the rest of the day, just because of the validation of a stranger, which is probably a little sad.
And then I started thinking how odd it is that "you've lost so much weight!" is automatically considered a compliment. I mean, she didn't follow that up with "you look so good", but it was obvious that that was what she meant. Of course, we were at the gym, so it's a pretty easy leap to make, but still. I guess it's just something that we're all culturally conditioned toward.
