So there's this chorus at UVic (the UVic Chorus, in fact), and all first year music students are required to be in it, plus it's used for large ensemble credit for people who don't play orchestral instruments.
But the majority of the large chorus is made up of non-UVic people, aka townies. Who generally hate the music students, because the music students come in for a year, often don't want to be there, and are as obnoxious about their musical knowledge as only first year music students can be.
Hence the townie death glare. Also the high volume "SHHHHHHHH", and the patronizing explanation of highly unnecessary things.
