The requisite weekend update.
Helloooooo! What's going on? How were your weekends? Don't you just love life right now?
I don't, particularly. But that's neither here nor there.
I had a pretty good weekend, though. Thursday night featured spontaneous sushi with
sarcasma,
mystery_diva and
sanity_clause. Tasty and fun!
Friday night featured spontaneous Mexican with
starfishchick,
sarcasma and
sanity_clause. Also tasty and fun, with bonus NaNo talk. However, after careful research it would appear that all Mexican restaurants in Toronto are veeeeery slow.
Dinner was followed by a spontaneous viewing of Mirrormask, which was visually stunning. And thus I used up all my alloted spontaneity for the year.
Saturday my friend J. and I took the roundabout route to Kitchener (GO train to Oakville, GO bus to Burlington, borrowing her mother's car and driving to Kitchener) to go to the 4th annual Bewitching Bellydance Ball. Awesome! I love the Hallowe'en show, because anything goes, from dancing to NIN in full gothwear, to being a "wilderness bellydancer" and dancing in full body mosquito netting and hiking boots, using a tent fly as a veil. This year there was much adaptation of random objects as canes, with people dancing while balancing computer keyboards, fishing rods, lit jack-o-lanterns and bottles of maple syrup on their heads. It was the most enthusiastic house I've ever experienced, too.
Before the show we had dinner at an Italian restaurant recommended to us by the friends of J. that we were staying with that night. It was tasty (and quick, thankfully, because we didn't have much time), but definitely more expensive than I would normally go for.
J.'s friends were great. Their house was ENORMOUS (at least by my standards), with something like 5 bedrooms (although one was being used as a study). I had a queen bed all to myself, which was awesome, considering I was expecting a couch. They also had 3 massive border collies and two cats that I saw only briefly (they stay in the basement most of the time, far away from the dogs). I'm...not good with dogs. And I didn't know there were going to be dogs. It was a little overwhelming, especially since the dogs were all quite determined that they were really lap dogs. It would have taken three of me to have enough lap for those dogs.
Also, sadly, the dogs meant that I didn't get to take advantage of the extra hour, since the dogs get up early and therefore the people do, too. 8am on a Sunday morning is just wrong.
Before leaving, we went out for brunch to a funky place in an old farmhouse or something. I think they own shares in the local onion crops, because the hashbrowns were basically onions with a few potatoes. Pretty tasty, though. And then home, where I was so unbelievably tired that I went to bed at about 8:30. Yeesh.
As you may have noticed from that weekend recap, I eat out a lot. It's partly laziness (I can't bring myself to cook these days), but mostly it's that eating out is my social life. And I love it.
Unfortunately I'm not recovering well from my two months of being locked out with no/minimal paycheque. I have debt, which I hate, and I need to be spending less money until I can pay that off. It's a terrible time of year, of course, especially considering I'd really like to sign up for more dance classes, but there's nothing to be done about that. So for November there will be no buying of things for myself, no movies, much less eating out (I know I won't manage to cut it out entirely, but less will still help), and hopefully building up a sweet stack of virtual cash to pay my line of credit off with.
Wait! You've made it this far, don't run away yet!
Two things:
1. We're not allowed to wear perfume or any kind of scent at work anymore. My BPAL collection is weeping.
2. If you're taking part in the tea exchange, remember to send your tea! I'm sure your recipient will be very grateful, what with fall giving way to winter here in the northern hemisphere.
Oh, wait, one more:
3. It is less than 10 hours until November, and my summer's accumulation of sunburns (the ones I received DESPITE my careful application of sunscreen every day) have not gone away. WTF?
Next up for me: NaNo! It's going to beawfulawesome.

#2 - Do you think my swappee would mind tea and tea-scented things? I have some yummy chai spice soap that I'm dying to give away.
