I spent last night taking all the books (and cards, and tchotchkes) off my bookcases, moving the bookcases, and putting the books back on. Although not in order, and not even standing upright, because it was late and I was tired. I had to put the books back on the shelves, though, so that they weren't on the floor anymore and I could clear a path for...THE COUCH.

Yes, that's right, I finally bought a damn couch. It's being delivered tonight (did you know that IKEA only does next day delivery? I certainly didn't), so I needed to move the bookcases, because the couch is going where the bookcases are (or were). But anyway, after tonight I will have a couch, and also a new set of shelves for all my board games, because they were getting tired of still being in boxes. And I bought a new shower curtain. But that's not particularly exciting.

Ikea do a whole lot of odd and inexplicable things, just so that when you question them, they can say "yes, but we're CHEAP, so sod off." Hooray for furniture!

I'm just amazed that Ikea delivers at all.

I demand that you post a photo of this couch. I was just at IKEA the other day pondering couches. Help me consume!!! Tell me what you bought!!!

The one we were looking at isn't pictured on the website but I swear it exists because I sat on it IN the IKEA. It's called Varnamo and is very comfortable.

Part of my revisioning of the furniture in my living room (which is currently painfully ugly) involves a two-seater couch and a matching three-seater that doubles as a sleeping place, be it a futon or a pull-out. I'm torn at the moment between buying the two-seater from IKEA or checking Craigslist obsessively for just the right futon/pullout.

My life is very hard.

I'm doing a little couch-dance in my chair here. couch couch couch. I think my butt knows that one day, it is going to *sit* on that couch, and it is excited about new prospects.

Good for you! couch couch couch.

It is if you use it to wrap up dead bodies for transport.

And, yay couch!

Hey I know where you could store the dead bodies!!!

Not only will Ikea deliver, but they'll even bring their allen key and put your stuff together, if you pay them to.

It makes me happy to learn that I'm not the only grown woman who needs a shelf for her board games.

Mine are all precariously on a top shelf in a closet, only not straight up and down. Somehow they end up leaning, inevitably on top of the Taboo game, and if the sharp point of one box edge goes to the right place, the Taboo buzzer starts buzzing spontaneously. This can be very scary when one is home alone.
