Why I Am Stupid: A Tale In Five Parts

Saturday I notice my light switch is in the "on" position, but neither the fan nor the light are actually doing anything. After flipping the switch a few times, I conclude that the whole dang thing is broken, and spend the night stumbling around with a flashlight. The next morning, I get up and turn on the light as I always do, by PULLING THE CHAIN, and of course it was never broken.
Monday after my yoga class, waiting for the streetcar for at least 10 minutes, I let the first one that comes go by because it was squished full, and I was feeling princess-like and wanted to sit and read my book. So of course the next two are short-turning at Broadview.
Yesterday I take the extra time, go out of my way, to go to the health food store to buy more vitamins on my way home, even though IhavetopeeIhavetopee. I buy $30 worth of groceries that aren't even on my list, but don't remember the vitamins until I'm back on the subway.
This morning I happily chop carrots and orange peppers and broccoli for lunch, find fruit, get a yogurt, and remember a spoon. Later this morning I am struck dumb in the middle of a conversation with my boss when I remember my veggies are still sitting on the kitchen counter.
Moments ago, I go to the mail truck coming down the hall, like I do four times a day, and then I stand there, because I cannot remember how to make the mail truck move again.
