Some samples that I got from
sh1mm3r,
chimerakitty and
vestra.
Calliope
The Fair Voiced. The eldest of the Muses, she is Eloquence, and thus, governs heroic and epic poetry, and her eloquence has served to calm quarrels even amongst the surliest of Gods. She is crowned in gold, and holds a roll of parchment or stylus and tablet. Hers is the scent of creative inspiration, and it is a boon to writers, poets and arbitrators: lavender and bright mint with bergamot, verbena, thyme and a touch of sweet orange and warm almond.
Smells like lemon tea when I first put it on, but the lemon disappears quickly, and I'm left with something slightly herbally...which disappears pretty quickly, too. No staying power, that's for sure.
Centzon Totochtin
The Four Hundred divine rabbits of the Aztec pantheon that preside over parties and drunkenness. Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.
Despite the intense, bitter cocoa smell at first, when it dries down on me it smells like root beer. Exactly. Complete with carbonation (no, I swear, I can smell the bubbles). I like it, I think, although I'm not sure what the appropriate situation is to smell like pop.
Cerberus
Cerberus, the Three-Headed watchdog that guards the gate to Hades. Loyal, dutiful and ferocious to its master’s enemies, but possessed of a distracting fondness for honey cakes and the song of the lyre. A deep, rumbling scent, warm, soft and as cozy as a dog by a hearthfire, but with a fierce and feral soul: deep chocolate, deeper musks, with a dash of fig, bittersweet walnut, and the wild essences of juniper berry, cubeb and rum.
Very strong alcohol smell in the beginning, which I'm assuming is the rum, although I get no actual scent. Then there's a crisp lemon, which I was totally not expecting, and finally it fades into something vaguely cocoa-like but mostly unremarkable. There's really just not much there for me.
Eve
The spirit of temptation, the essence of lost innocence. Apple blossom, rose, ylang ylang and golden honey.
Sadly, way too floral for me. I think it's the rose that's so overpowering. It's too bad - I was hoping the ylang ylang and honey would balance it out, but no.
Sin
Thouroughly corrupted: amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon.
Whoa, this is so strong. It's a little scary - I was afraid to get near anyone. It's a heavy sandalwood with an undertone of patchouli. I actually like it, except that it fades into a weird baby powder by the end of the day.
Snake Oil
By far, our most popular scent! Magnetic, mysterious, and exceedingly sexual in nature. A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla.
Mmm, this is very nice. Vanilla, which I love, but with a spicy, musky undertone.
Vinland
The legendary site of the Viking colony in Newfoundland founded circa 985 BC. Crisp northern wind blowing over loganberry, wild roses, prairie crocus, iris versicolor Linné, mountain avens, yellow birch bark, mayflower and maple leaf.
I probably would have tried this no matter what it was supposed to smell like. It's Vikings! In Newfoundland! Sadly, it didn't live up to my hopes, although I do like it. It starts out with a mild woody berry scent, and then the floral kicks in. End result: nice, but nothing special.
