Dude, I'd forgotten just how much I love Hard Core Logo. It's just this crazy perfect blend of fake and real, with the actual director and real punk bands from Vancouver. And a quote from NOW magazine! And Terry fucking David Mulligan!

And of course Callum Keith Rennie and Hugh Dillon. My love of CKR is long-standing and well-documented, and it's because of this movie that I own a Headstones CD. Hugh Dillon has a new band, now, too - The Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir. It's good stuff.

Whoops, I got off topic there. Movie. Awesome! See it!

(The book, by Michael Turner, is excellent too. Read it!)

I have seen the film, but not read the book. I shall add it to the bottom of my scarily too long reading list.

I was meaning to ask if you knew Hard Core Logo. Because of course nearly all HCL related fanfiction is horrifically spoilery. But since you know it, I can rec Kellie Matthew's Northern Comfort, a rather nice Ben/Billy crossover, though I think Billy is a shade to sensitive to be really in-character. There are two sequels, a Ben/RayK one, which I don't think is quite as good, and a HCL/Tales of the City one where Billy ends up with Brian Hawkins. (I haven't reread that yet, though I vaguely remember it being pretty good, and very, very long. I'm not sure you really need to know Armistead Maupin for it.)

First though, read Like A House on Fire - a lovely, long thing where Ben and Ray K haven't talked in years and finally meet back up, and slowly sort things out, while solving an arson case. Angst, cheap motel sex, internet arson groupies, and a Fraser who's gone a little soft around the middle and is really self-concious about it.

And swinging back to straight HCL, there is Kat Allison's Xeriscape, which for I have just no words.

Now go read "hard Core Roadshow" which is the book by the screenplay adaptor writer person, documenting the hilarious making of the film. and the writing process, but mostly just drinking and goat slaying and drinking...

Lots of brilliant real life CKR moments in there, too. And apparently Hugh Dillon is amazingly attached to his girlfriend, in between all the drinking. I laugh out loud, and I've read it a dozen times.

Lovelovelove that book.

Thanks for reminding me about the HDRC album - I picked it up while I was in TBay this past week (but haven't listened to it yet - I'm "saving" it for getting me through the first day back at work). I remember Hugh from scaring the crap out of me in Kingston a few times. He was pretty high then but I suspect he's no less fucking scary now that he's not.
