I'm on Day 2 of a one week sugar fast -- meaning, no candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, sugary drinks, juices with sugar in them, jams and peanut butter with sugar in them, sugary cereals, fancy coffees, sugar or honey in my tea, sugar on my oatmeal, products with added sugar, nothing. The only things that have sugar in them that I haven't stopped eating are my soy milk (because unsweetened soy milks are really thick and high in fat) and my yogurt (because finding flavoured yogurt that's both low-fat and gelatin-free is very difficult).

And I'd like to say, it's killing me. I'm all jittery! I almost caved today when buying groceries, and it's only been one day. This week is going to be the death of me.

Why? What? How? What's the reason for this crazy behaviour??

Seriously...I couldn't do it. I am such a sugar whore. Good luck!

And why, may I ask, are you doing this to yourself?

I'm doing something similar in my return to the whole low carb dieting thing. Are you allowed to have artificial sweeteners on your current program? One thing that saved my sanity (such as it is) was to make some sugar-free jello, and then whip some heavy cream with a packet of Splenda. Put the two together and you have the taste of sweet fruit and some creamy richness from the cream. Together they tend to quiet my sugar cravings.

Good luck!

That makes sense. And while I find Splenda pretty decent, aftertaste wise, sugar free jello's sweetener definitely stands out.

When I'd been on low carb for a few weeks, the sugar cravings really subsided. I think there's some sort of blood sugar level thing that settles down after you've been off sugar for a while. [obligatory not-a-doctor statement here] So while fake sugars aren't the same, they can serve as methadone until your body's metabolism stops sending your brain cravings. Just a thought. So whether or not you want to go the sugar-free jello route, it really will feel better at some point. (Barring other physical issues.) [second obligatory not-a-doctor statement here]

Why, oh lord, for the love of all that is holy (Jelly Bellies, Sour Patch Kids), why????

What did poor candy ever do to you, meanie? It just wants to be loved.

Seriously, though, good luck. You're a better person than I. I couldn't do it.
