I have lots of movies coming to me from Zip, but I need some serial TV for in between seasons of The Wire rewatch. What should I watch? What's distracting/engrossing enough to make me forget the heat?

White Collar is about a con man/forger, who works with the FBI. It's much fun, and the relationship between Neal (con man), Peter (FBI), and El (Peter's wife) is awesome.

Leverage is about a group of criminals who do cons to get back at the corporations and governments and people who exploit the little guy.

And Burn Notice is about a spy who has been burned, and is trying to get back in. Also, it has Bruce Campbell, which makes it automatically awesome.

I hear amazing things about Friday Night Lights but haven't watched it myself.

I can lend you the first two seasons of Burn Notice if you want.

I've only seen the first season of FNL, but it is AWESOME. Then I've heard the 2nd season isn't as good, but then it gets awesome again.

I watched the first two seasons of Dexter, and it is certainly engrossing, but I had to stop, as it's another thing that is so gross and violent that it makes me kind of uncomfortable. Not sure if you'd like it--maybe? It's definitely well written/acted/directed, etc.

I acutally like Fringe a *lot*, though I haven't seen the first season. My hubby watches it and a little while into the second season I started watching over his shoulder while I did other things and pretty soon I was WAIT WHAT'S THAT - PRETTY PEOPLE - NOW WHAT'S GOING ON HERE and the rest is history.

I also recommend Burn Notice, though I'm only midway through season 2 myself. But I admit that since I'm hardly watching TV these days, I haven't actually seen any of the things you list as possibilities above (the ones that I'm sufficiently aware of to think they might be interesting are pretty much all on channels I don't get).

Heh. I keep thinking that when I have time, I'll finally subscribe to netflix and catch up all these shows and movies I've missed. But so far I haven't even caught up w/ the stuff my Dad saves off TV and sends me (well, I did watch Dr. Who immediately, but I think I have some Dexter, and Terminator, and maybe Battlestar Galactica still on the shelf from years ago).

Lord I suck, I haven't seen any of them! Nor can I recommend you anything. Bah.

FNL is fantastic. Season 2 does go downhill (writers strike kinda screwed it), but season 3 is good and season 4 is even better (has hints of The Wire in it).

Better than the movie (which is horribly compressed).

Fringe I thought was stupid. How many times do they think they can pull the line of "oh, so I used to do scientific experiments with this mad scientist and I forgot to mention it up until now, but I've just remembered because those experiments have turned up in the wild, and now that I've remembered I can do this stupid thing on this FBI Agent and that will solve everything." Writers need to be taken out and shot.

FNL is indeed awesome. (I think part of my fascination is that I really don't understand the American HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULZ!!!!!! mentality and this gives me a little peek into all of it.)
